Carat is often confused with size and is actually a measure of the weight of a stone. One carat is divided into 100 points. A diamond weighing half of a carat can also be described as weighing 50 points or 0.50 carats. The rarity of a diamond is greatly affected by its size. Since larger diamonds are found less frequently in nature, a 1.00ct diamond will cost much more than twice as much as a 0.50ct diamond!
